I am interested in the intersection of fiction and identity, unreal space, liminality, and emotional dualities. Liminality refers to a metaphorical space between two ways of being. In this project, I use fictional characters to explore the process of reconciling two seemingly incompatible ways of being. My characters reject the binaries imposed on them and live on a spectrum, perhaps never settling for one way to color themselves. The identities of these characters are shaped by the fictions they create about themselves, as well as the fictions they encounter. These identities are illuminated to the audience through fiction, poetry and illustration. As fiction shapes identity, it also shapes the perception of identity. This phenomenon happens in life as well, it is fascinating to see it happen in myself, and to try and replicate it in art.
