In January 2017, I facilitated a “Meeting of the Minds” in which key stakeholders of the maker and design ecosystems came together to help co-design Creators League. Coming into the meeting, I explained the tree ecosystem model and my plans to build a web platform based off of that ecosystem that would facilitate better connection among creatives. I presented, what I thought would be, my business model in which Creators League would begin as a website that features individuals and organizations from within the creative industries and promotes events such as lectures, workshops, and design-build competitions. It would integrate with other online social platforms (i.e. Meetup.com, Facebook.com, Etsy.com, Calagator.com) by aggregating content related to creative communities and events. It would provide users with the ability to filter results by standard filters (i.e. date, time, place) as well as advanced filters such as skill level, desired collaborators, tools needed, etc. Once the website met key milestones Creators League would begin organizing frequent events that support its mission, such as events listed on previous versions of Creators League ecosystem maps. I had planned an activity for participants to design a basic wireframe, or customer journey, through the website based off of their respective industries. One singular question shifted the entire purpose of the meeting: why isn’t this map in 3D?
