Accompanied by a white porcelain letter opener, one could choose to use it to open the perforated pages of the signature and reveal what it is hidden. Ripping the pages, one might find insight by revealing the spaces in-between, but in doing so one simultaneously risks destruction.
After all, a letter opener is a tool to open up discussion and to share. Thus, this work represents and exists in a place of and for conversation, which engenders further conversations marked both by what we see before us and what is hidden.
The unexpectedly fragile form of the fishbone-shaped letter opener (inspired by the Tom Waits song Fish Bone in the Jailhouse) embodies the formal qualities of ambiguity and vagueness.
